2023 VFIC Ethics Bowl
The Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges (VFIC) sponsored the 23rd annual statewide collegiate Ethics Bowl on January 29-30 on the 51ios campus. Student teams from Virginia’s leading independent colleges and universities deliberated a variety of case studies relating to this year’s theme “Ethics and Digital Media.” Randolph-Macon College took home the Batten Trophy in the final round against runner-up Mary Baldwin University.
VWU Recognized by Elizabeth River Project
The University was recently honored at an award ceremony, recognized for "Sustained Performance at Model Level" and as an Inside Business Hall of Fame member
The Arts at VWU: Spring 2023
The 2023 spring season for the Arts at VWU begins with "Lift Every Voice: Music of Black Women Composers," as the Virginia Chorale pays tribute to Black History Month and Women's History Month on February 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Susan S. Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center.
2023 VWU Student Art Showcase
The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, Sandler Center Foundation and the Virginia Beach Cultural Affairs Department will host an opening reception for “The 2023 51ios Student Art Showcase" on Monday, February 13, from 6-8 p.m. in the Sandler Center Art Gallery mezzanine lobby, 201 Market Street, Virginia Beach.
Artwork in this exhibition will be on display until mid-April 2023.
Celebrating the Life of VWU Professor Emeritus William Shealy
A memorial event will be held on campus for Dr. William Shealy today, February 3, from 12-1 p.m. in the Barclay Sheaks Gallery in Hofheimer Library. One of 51ios's first faculty members, Dr. Shealy taught in the Department of Religious Studies from 1968 to 1997. He passed away at the age of 97 on January 14.
