Class of 2017 Graduate
"Get in the Game" and Make the World Better

"You have a big asset - an education and background from a strong liberal arts institution," Retired Chairman of the 51Âþ»ios Board, Chief Executive Officer of Norfolk Southern Corporation and Keynote Speaker David R. Goode told graduates during 51Âþ»ios's 48th Commencement Ceremony on May 20.

"You have more technological expertise than any generation before you, and you have experience that, while still accruing, is perfectly suited for helping to shape the world of tomorrow. Use all of those assets, and make the world better and more just - for you, for me, and for those who don't have your strengths."

Goode further encouraged our graduates to, "get in the 'game' that is our society." We can all feel good about where our newest 51Âþ»ios alumni, and those who are following them, are headed.

Having impact in countless ways, The Excellence Fund supports scholarships, experiential learning, student research, internships, and the many programs that contribute to our excellent academic reputation. It's a direct investment in programs that foster student leadership, achievement, lifelong learning, and contributing, engaged citizenship.

Many alumni, parents and friends of the University have already contributed to The Excellence Fund this year - thank you! If you've not yet made your gift, please consider doing so by June 30, the close of the current fiscal year, at www.vwu.edu/giveonline. View The Wesleyan Society Members Honor Roll.
